Celebrating an architectural icon with sensible commercial upgrades.

Helsinki’s landmark heritage venue the “House of Culture” needed modern event spaces without compromising its protected status. JBC Projects worked with Legends Global to deliver sensitive upgrades, highlighted by transforming the long‑vacant Alppisali cinema into Kult Club, a 300‑capacity DJ and live‑music venue, alongside refreshed restaurant and lobby areas.

JBC Projects led the interface between local and central teams with developers.

JBC Projects acted as the central interface between Legends Global’s European business development team and the newly formed local venue management team, shaping the strategic direction for the venue and defining how it would operate commercially and operationally.

Working in parallel with the landlord’s development team, JBC Projects created the framework that allowed the project to progress with clarity, momentum and a shared understanding of how the venue would be delivered and operated. (Image credit: HANNU RYTKY)

Sensitively upgrading one of the most significant and iconic architectural buildings.

As one of Helsinki’s most significant modernist buildings, every upgrade required approval from four separate architectural bodies. JBC Projects planned this process from the outset, structuring cost and programme around the approvals pathway to manage expectations and protect the commercial timeline for the venue’s relaunch.
